Sugarbush farm, located on a 550 acre hilltop farm outside Woodstock, Vermont is well worth the ride on the back country roads. The Luce family, with the 2nd and 3rd generations now working the farm, specializing in aging white cheddar to 2 and 3 years old... and also smoking cheese the old fashioned way with natural hickory and maple smoke for 3 days.

Available by mail, or in the 1860 farmhouse gift shop, Sugarbush Farm offers White Cheddars in medium, sharp, extra sharp, and sometimes even over 4 years old. Also offered are Hickory and Maple Naturally Smoked, Smoked cheese with Salami, Smoked cheese with Onion, Cheddar with Sage, Green Mountain Jack, Vermont Lite (low fat), and Blue Cheese.

Visitors can watch the cheeses being hand wrapped in foil, and hand dipped in 3 coats of special cheese coating wax which allow cheese to be carried home or shipped via UPS. Upon arriving at the farm, folks are treated to free samples of all the cheeses and questions on farming, cheeses, area history and other tasty attractions are answered. Sampling is done in individual family groups to allow each group of visitors to try what they are interested in. Sugarbush Farm also taps 5000 maple trees, and visitors can sample 4 grades of maple syrup, tour the maple sugar making building, walk the maple nature trail and enjoy the peace and quiet of a working farm.

To complete the tasting experience, Vermont jams, mustards, cheese spreads and honey are open for sampling and for sale.

The farm is located 3 miles off US Rt. 4 on Hillside Road, across the Taftsville Bridge, 3 miles east of Woodstock. For a map, visit Sugarbush Farm's web site, where you will also find a mail order brochure. Farm store is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm.
